KT Security Solutions is a privately held company owned by Kevin and Kristen Thomas in Cullman, Alabama. Another division of KT Solutions, KT Outdoors, is in the business of designing and manufacturing deployable walls for modular shooting and recreational houses. So, after the shooting in Uvalde, TX, Kevin and Kristen became keenly focused on ways to adapt the existing modular wall technology they developed through KT Outdoors to invent a ballistic shield system that protects people from gun violence and saves lives.
With the development of the Rapid Access Safe Room (RASR), KT Security Solutions has partnered with Honeywell, Cornerstone, and American Technologies to create a unique system exclusively designed to provide critical protection for classrooms and other vulnerable settings such as businesses, government facilities, churches, hospitals, banks, courthouses, and more.
Kevin Thomas is known for solving complex problems with simple, high-quality solutions. He spent the first 11 years of his career as an architectural project manager before starting his own general contracting business, which included designing and building facilities for the oil & gas industry, commercial enterprises, and the federal government.
KT retired in 2020 to spend more time with his family but couldn’t sit still for long and started inventing solution-oriented products. It began with a panelized hunting blind for his wife, Kristen, who wanted a place to take pictures while KT hunted.
Learn MoreThe novel design created a first-of-its-kind blind that one person can assemble without heavy equipment. Kevin expanded this concept to create cost-effective, rapidly deployable modular buildings that provide solutions for EMS, military, disaster relief, and people experiencing homelessness. He further customized the modular units for the military to offer protection from gunfire.
When the Uvalde tragedy happened, Kristen once again turned to KT for a solution, asking if his ballistic modular buildings could be put in classrooms to protect students and teachers from active shooters. KT liked the idea but knew the space requirement would be prohibitive. To solve this challenge, he invented the Rapid Access Safe Room, RASR, with pull-out walls that can be activated in 10 seconds to save lives.
